How it all began!
Mommies, I ( Amruta Sallunke) have been where you are now… breaking brains about how, when and exactly what to feed my little baby boy anvay while transitioning from breastmilk to solid foods. I always loved cooking and get satisfaction in preparing different foods by myself. Then how could I not feed my baby self made home food? So I rarely searched for baby foods in shops and malls. I started making fresh baby foods like plain rice- dal khichdi mix , sooji kheer and ragi malt for my kiddo. My boy loved and enjoyed it to the fullest. And I was so so satisfied watching him!
As he grew up, I did search for more options to cater to his entire nutritional requirements. But all I found in stores was refined sugars, chemicals, preservatives and the like. That is when I began exploring more and trying out different combinations. Being a biotechnologist by qualification, I always tend to dig deeper into topics and so it helped me bring out new formulations. But I always stuck with indian origin grains and pulses. At the same time, one of my friend from Gujarat used to ask me repeatedly about what I feed anvay. After that I observed that not every baby has access to homemade nutritional baby foods, some don’t know which foods to be given to a baby, some don’t have elders with them who can assist them in preparing and some just don’t have the time. There were many problems which new mommies faced. And a feeling of helping out such moms rushed through me.
How it was implemented
That eve, when me and my hubby sat for our usual loved cup of chai, I expressed my thoughts to him. His reaction was what paved the way for Balvvardhak foods. He just said a single statement “get started, don’t think much. Rest will be learned during the process”. And that’s how Balvvardhak baby foods started. With a strong urge that literally all babies should have homemade , indian origin nutrition rich food. Nothing else!
